As an employer, you have a legal obligation to comply with health & safety laws to prevent or control risks in the workplace.
Although the hospitality industry is not considered a 'high risk' category for Health & Safety, there are certain priorities ... slips, trips & falls; manual handling; exposure to steam and chemicals; being struck by moving/falling objects and ill-health from chronic musculoskeletal disorders and dermatitis.
As a minimum, you must ....
-
Protect the health and safety of your employees, contractors and customers, so far as is reasonably practical
-
Have a Health & Safety Policy (written if you employ more than four people)
-
Consult with employees
-
Appoint a competent person to assist with Health & Safety procedures
-
Carry out risk assessments
-
Set up emergency procedures
-
Train staff in basic Health & Safety
-
Co-ordinate procedures and work safely with others
