Fire Safety
The hospitality industry is one of the highest fire risk areas and it is your responsibility to protect your customers, guests and staff from the devastating effects of fire. Ensure you are aware of the changes in fire safety regulations within the last few years.
Fire safety regulations are now governed by:
-
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (‘the Order’) for England & Wales
- The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 Part 3, as amended, and The Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006
Does it apply to you?
The legislation applies to all non-domestic premises and if you are:
- responsible for business premises
- an employer or self-employed with business premises
- responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes
- a charity or voluntary organisation
- a contractor with a degree of control over any premises
- providing accommodation for paying guests
What do you need to do?
Under the FSO, the responsible person (usually the employer, owner or manager) must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan.
